Wireless Services
Consider all the fees and rates:
- Monthly Fees or Monthly Service Charge: Monthly fees usually include a limited amount of “airtime” or minutes you can use.
- Time Restrictions: Once you have used up your minutes, you must pay extra for making more calls.
- Roaming Charges: If you are too far away form your “home calling area” or “home service area,” you will have to pay extra “roaming charges” to make calls.
- Long-Distance and Toll Charges: You may need to pay additional long-distance charges or toll charges for making long-distance calls from your cell phone.
Possible Wireless Cell Phone Abuses
- Ask if your contract has a termination fee. Most contracts charge if you want to cancel before the end of the contract period.
- Sometimes, the sales people at the shopping malls selling cell phones may not work for the telephone companies they represent. You could end up with two separate service contracts, one with the reseller and one with the phone company, resulting in double termination fees.
- Sometimes, cell phone companies will offer services for reduced prices. However, this reduced price may only be for limited time. Always ask: “What will your rate be after the promotional offer is over?”
